Our mission is to provide programming and skill development opportunities to any child who is interested in the game of soccer to enhance their social/emotional and physical health, in a positive and safe environment. Our goal is to create individuals who remain active for life and who strive to achieve.
Each program or division focuses on the unique developmental needs and physical literacy of each player’s age group. By developing skills based on the age and stage of each child we can provide a fun and supportive environment.
For children ages 3-8 years old, these are introductory programs to the game of soccer.
The emphasis of the season is on developing an enjoyment of active gameplay in a fun and supportive environment. Teams are in-house which means that they play with other CYSA players and teams at a single location with multiple fields throughout the season.

The Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model is followed. In this model players are not assigned a position for the season. Instead, players are encouraged to play in each soccer position and every player receives an equal amount of playing time.
Children at this age are considered to be in the “golden age of learning,” when children start to become less self-centered and are more able to reflect on their actions and learn from mistakes. This provides an optimal window for further development of skills. The focus is on learning by doing and the goal is to build a larger repertoire of soccer movements and to teach the basic principles of play in a fun and challenging environment
Additional practice is important at this level, as necessary technical and tactical skills cannot be learned through regular gameplay only. The emphasis in practice is on further developing skills such as controlling the ball, dribbling, receiving, stopping, passing, and shooting. Team play and positional play are also taught.
The emphasis of the season is on skill development and learning the rules of the game in a fun and supportive environment. Teams have a maximum roster of 12 and are separated by gender. Matches are played throughout Winnipeg and the surrounding area. The season starts in the first week of May and concludes with the WYSA LTPD Jamboree at the end of June.

CYSA does not currently offer placement in the Developmental and/or Premier Programs.
These programs are designed for players who have a strong interest in the game and who hope to participate in a higher level of competitive play.
Developmental Programs are offered for players in the U9-U12 age divisions and Premier Programs are offered to players in the U13-U17 age divisions.
Clubs and Academies will conduct evaluation sessions, and based on these assessments form teams. Every reasonable effort will be made in the developmental program that if a child registers and wishes to play at this level, they will be given the opportunity to do so. The Premier Program requires a specific level of skill in order to qualify for placement.
Players interested in the Premier and Developmental Leagues must understand that these competitive programs require an intense commitment to the game and players go through an evaluation process before being offered a team position. As these programs do require a player assessment, the registration process typically begins 1-3 months earlier than Recreational Division registrations.
These programs are open to any player interested in playing at this level regardless of home club. In other words, players can investigate options for cost, coaching experience and qualifications, club vision, etc, before committing to a particular club.
Players who would like to reserve a space in the recreational program, in case they cannot play at this level, must complete a separate CYSA pre-registration (no fee) within their age-appropriate division and inform the CYSA registrar.
Only those who have pre-registered can be guaranteed space within the recreational program if the player is not offered a roster position with a club team.
One of the primary goals of CYSA is to create players who are active for life and who continue to participate in soccer as adults. If you are interested in joining a CYSA Legacy team contact any member of the CYSA board of directors
To encourage players to do so and in celebration of the association's 50th anniversary in the fall of 2018 the first adult league team was introduced for graduates of CYSA. The Charleswood Legacy women’s team competes in the Winnipeg Women’s Soccer League.
All legacy teams will be expected to follow the governance of their respective leagues and may only use the team name, Charleswood Legacy, with the permission of CYSA.
While support in the form of coaching and administrative needs will be provided by the CYSA executive all costs associated with these teams will be covered by the individual team and players.
